On Servitude

Today I want to talk to you about commitment and servitude.

Humans are designed to commit to a passion or cause, bigger than themselves. Throughout history, many have had their cause thrust upon them, ie) The mere survival of their families, being threatened by neighbouring tribes, learning to love a useful skill, pasted down from parent to child. Now, as more prosperity comes to many parts of the world and more automation and comfort creeps in, there is less imposed cause for many people, particularly in wealthier nations. While there is nothing fundamentally wrong with prosperity, it can, in isolation, create a void which must be filled.

Humans are designed to care for something. To put our energies into something that we love or something that we must do….like our life depends on it. Without this feeling, humans are prone to getting sick. Mentally, emotionally and spiritually sick. This is particularly true for teenagers, who throughout human existence have been a much needed part of society. Fulfilling the role of apprentice, helper, support network, future leader. Now, often, parents are busy and teenagers are bored. This trend often continues into adulthood, where people can find themselves in jobs they hate to pay for things they don’t truly need. When there is no love or sense of necessity in the work we do, again sickness of the mind, emotions and soul can set in.

It is a fundamental part of human existence, at a soul level, to find ways to engage our passion and sense of purpose. Service to others is the highest form of human endeavour. Through human service, we are lifted beyond our own internal musings and issues. We are led into a state of compassion for others and gratitude for what we have ourselves.

It is no coincidence that compassion and gratitude are two of the highest vibrational frequencies in the universe. When we are in a state of compassion or gratitude, we are lighter, more positive and overall happier.

The opposite is also true.

To find something we are passionate about, particularly if it serves humanity or mother earth is the most noble of pursuits. Sometimes we can find a way to link this to work, to earn money from helping others. Somethings though, the act of needing to make money from something takes away the purity of the endeavour. or, perhaps we are unable to find ways to earn money while engaging in our passion or purpose, which is totally fine and sometimes preferable, to maintain the purity of the energy and commitment.

It I could offer one gift to each human, it would be to find and fully engage with what sets your heart of on fire, what excites you and drives you, what makes you feel like to you part of something bigger than yourself. What puts you in a state of gratitude and compassion for others.

Never the easiest path, but always the most graceful and rewarding.
